It is the year 1703 in England and Digory Beale knew that his father was lost at sea. His nightmares of his father drowning made Digory afraid of the water and living in a fishing town made things even worse for Digory. He had to find out if his father was dead or alive so he traveled 100 miles to the city of Portsmouth, England. On the way he met an architect, Henry Winstanley, who built a wooden lighthouse near the treacherous Eddystone Reef… the same killer reef that claimed his grandfather’s life many years before. Digory became his apprentice and when a severe storm threatened to knock down the lighthouse Digory had to decide if he was brave enough to help Mr. Winstanley light the candle beacon that would be going out in the rain and wind. Ships would crash into the deadly reef without a light to guide them. Can Digory brave the fierce ocean storm and overcome his fear of drowning and save the lighthouse? Will he find his father? Read “Fearless” which is based upon a true story about Henry Winstanley and the Eddington Light. (New Hampshire Great Stone Face nominee, 2009-2010) |
