Meet Stevie Walters -- short, geeky and troubled.  He and his mother are an emotional mess since his father was killed by a drunk driver.  Socially isolated at school, Stevie is just a walking tragedy.  Now meet Goody Pryne -- big, loud mouth and smart.  But she also tends to be a bully.  Her home life is not much better than Stevie's but instead of turning inward, Goody becomes the center of attention.  At one point, Goody punches Stevie so hard that she sends him to the hospital!  Is there any way that these two can become friends and help each other?  It seems unlikely.
SUBJECTS:     Friendship -- Fiction.
                        Schools -- Fiction.
