Cassie
can't believe she is being allowed to make a pie. With the war between
the states raging, provisions have been scarce. But mama was able
to trade for some sugar and butter. Cassie picked the huckleberries
and set about making the pie. Her younger brother and sister were
getting in the way but Cassie had promised her mother that she would watch
them. When they learned that a group of Union soldiers were on their
way to the house, Cassie has to think quickly to save what they can. |
