Thirteen-year-old Rowan and eleven-year-old Nina spend the summer with two eccentric great-aunts in a small town on the coast of Maine. The town is very odd with no electricity or indoor plumbing. One morning Nina is missing. Rowan realizes that she has used the time portal to go back in time to find their mother who has recently died. Rowan takes friends along to go into the time portal during the golden hour to find his sister and ends up in danger himself. Each person is only allowed a week trip. Will Rowan find his sister in time to get them through the portal during the silver or golden hour in a week?  (Jean B. Bellavance for Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Awards, 2005-2006)
