THINGS INVISIBLE TO SEE
New York : Knopf, 1985.
This is a funny fantasy. Twin brothers are as opposite as can be. One is a carefree spirit, the other, a penny pinching serious type who has to consult phrase books for conversation openers. Ben, the carefree one, hits and causes paralysis to a girl by throwing a baseball. The story unwinds as Willie, the tightwad, takes over Ben's responsibilities to Wanda, Ben's supposed girlfriend. Ben being preoccupied by daily visits to Clare, who doesn't know he's the pitcher. The fantasy progresses with Ben wagering with the devil to get more time to live based on the outcome of a baseball game.
