Before
the Soviet Union collapsed, it was very difficult for citizens to leave
the country if they wanted to settle elsewhere. But many wanted to.
Life was hard and there were few freedoms offered to those who lived under
the Communist government. Tanya is a young dancer in the Kirov Ballet
and is contemplating defecting when the company tours France. This
is a dangerous thing to attempt and Tanya must decide if she is up to this.
At the same time, changes are happening in the country. It is 1991
and the Soviet Union is on the verge of collapse. |
