Katya
lives a charmed life. She is the daughter of Russion nobility.
Her father has died but she and her mother live very nicely in the beautiful
city of St. Petersburg. The year is 1914 and there are rumblings
among the poor peasants that things need to change. Katya's older
cousin Misha is a university student who seems to be involved in some form
of protest. Young and spoiled, Katya cannot see why the peasants
are unhappy. Afterall, they should be thankful that they have jobs
and a place to live. Katya's mother is chosen to move to the royal
palace and become a lady-in-waiting to the Empress herself. Katya
is to be a companion to the Tsar's daughter, Anastasia. Life in the
palace is certainly different from the life she is used to. The Tsar
and his wife don't believe in spoiling their children. They live
very simply. Still, the life is a good one and Katya loves her life.
That all begins to change when war breaks out. Not only is Russia
at war, the peasants are demanding that the Tsar leave office. Things
are changing very quickly in Russia. How will all these changes affect
Katya and her mother? Will they be caught up in the great Russian
Revolution? |
