DICEY'S SONG
New York : Atheneum, 1982.
IL 5-8 RL 5.2
ISBN 0689309449
Dicey, James, Maybeth and Sammy work out living with Gram. There's a sailboat Dicey works on as she works on understanding and appreciating Gram's manner. She gets a job at Millies's and understands her gift of reaching out even though she can't read well. James tried to fit in by not showing how bright he is. Maybeth has trouble reading and is befriended by her music teacher who is an occasional babysitter. Sammy tries really hard to be good in school and not pick fights but eventually loosens up. Liza is the topic of Dicey's contrast essay but Dicey is accused of plagiarism. Mina stands up to her and Dicey call her to thank her. Jeff sings a song she likes and start being friendly. The story continues with "Solitary Blue".
