Spindrift lives in Lux with her grandfather.  She gets the shock of her life when the glass orb, found with her as a baby, blooms into the Black Orchid.  Grandfather begins to share with her letters her mother wrote before she died, talking about her all consuming search for the Seven Sage Orchids.  Roland wants control of all the orchids and is hunting for them.  Spindrift decides she must find the missing orchids before he does.  Will Spindrift be able to find them before Roland?  Will she be able to handle them or lose control from the curse of the orchids?
