Imagine you were born with a disability so bad you are told you can never learn to walk or ride a bike. Imagine you live in a county is which people who have disabilities are told, they can never get a job but have to beg on the streets for money. Well, that’s what happened to Emmanuel Yeboah. He was born in Ghana with a leg that had a deformity. In his country, there was no support for people with disabilities. As a child, he was told never to expect to walk or ride a bike or have a job. But Emmanuel didn’t listen to any of them. He learned to hop. He hopped himself to school, two miles each way! He learned to ride a bike! And when his mother died when he was only 13, he went to the city and got a job to help support his family. Emmanuel went to become a national hero in Ghana! He rode his bike across his country and is now an advocate for people with disabilities all over the world. Read his amazing story! (Garden State Children's Book Awards, 2018) |
