Shouting is a holy dance that happens in some African American churches.  If you aren't sure what this is, the author explains the practice in the back of the book.  She states "Shouting is the exhilarating, foot tapping, hand clapping echo of joy and faith.  There is nothing more fascinating than watching people get caught up in the Holy Spirit, dancing on winged feet, propelled by spirited music, and skipping from one end of the church to the other."  In this book, a young girl tells about how she loves it when her mother gets all dressed up and joins in the celebration.
