Jack and the Beanstalk and the French Fries by Mark Teague will have you laughing out loud as you relive the memories of the fairy tale with a modern, “fast food” twist. When Jack trades the family cow for a handful of beans, he finds out quickly that eating beans for every meal is not a fun diet. In the town, he becomes known as the “bean kid.” When he climbs the beanstalk to escape an angry mob of townspeople, he encounters a giant who is just as tired of eating beans! Together, Jack and the Giant plant a vegetable garden which requires patience to gather the crops. Eventually, carrots, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, and asparagus – in large quantities (size and number) is harvested. Jack’s mom cooks a feast of nutritious foods, but the town favorite was the French fries.
