A letter
arrived. It is July in the year 1914 in Portsmouth, Virginia.
The letter is from eleven-year-old Evan Bryant's grandfather. Nobody
knew that his grandfather was still alive and living at the International
Seaman's Last Harbor in Brooklyn, New York.
Long ago, Evan's mother thought
her father had been lost at sea. Her mother's Aunt Molly called him
a "fishing scalawag." Evan's real name is "Evander". His father
named him after his now deceased grandfather and founder of the family
business. Evan's father is quite prim and proper and has little time
for him. A bully at school, Mike Hodge makes life difficult for Evan.
Evan and his friend Buddy hope that Evan's grandfather will take them fishing.
Read A Sailor Returns by Theodore Taylor and discover what happens
when Evan's grandfather comes to town. (New
Hampshire Great Stone Face Committee) |
