First
published in 1951, All-of-a-Kind Family is a classic that has been enjoyed
by several generations. The story follows five sisters living in
New York around the turn of the century -- the 20th century that is.
The girls are part of a close-knit family of Jewish immigrants that don't
have much in the way of money or material possessions but have a lot of
love. The story follows the girls through several seasons and we
learn about several Jewish holidays and how they were celebrated.
We also meet some of the other immigrants that live in the New York neighborhood.
Sydney Taylor used her own childhood memories as the basis of this book
and others in the series. |
