Ever since her mom left to pursue her dream job, Molly has tried to be perfect in order to entice her mother to come home. When she hears about a poetry slam competition at her school, Molly signs up, sure that her mother would return home for the winner’s banquet. However, Molly’s attempts to control her environment and behavior has led to obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms that are beginning to take over her life, and threatening her ability to compete in the poetry slam. This book is a more advanced read-alike for Raymie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo (also on this ballot). GARDEN STATE CHILDREN’S BOOK AWARDS, 2019 |
