Nathaniel
is a magician's apprentice in a world where magicians make up the ruling
class of London. When an arrogant magician by the name of Simon
Lovelace publicly humiliates him, Nathaniel takes matters into his own
hands and summons the Djinn Bartimaeus to steal the Amulet of Samarkand
from Lovelace. But Nathaniel soon learns that the ability to summon
and the ability to control are two different things entirely. After
his house is burned down and he barely escapes with his life, Nathaniel
discovers the Amulet is at the center of a massive political plot destined
to challenge not only the ruling powers but the depth of Nathaniel's own
abilities as well. And woven throughout all this adventure is the
Demon Bartimaeus, whose only objective is to escape the control of
Nathaniel. Can Nathaniel control him? Can he trust him?
