Linger
is the sequel to Shiver, the first book of the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy.
Shiver introduces Grace who for years has been fascinated by the yellow-eyed
wolf that saved her from its pack when she was attacked as a child. Sam,
who was bitten by a werewolf as a boy, is that wolf. He spends the summer
months as a human and the cold months of the year as a wolf. When they
finally meet, they fall deeply in love, but their romance is threatened
by many challenges, including the fact that Sam may soon lose the ability
to become human.
In Linger Sam is now cured of his werewolf affliction and is adjusting to year-round life as a human. However, Grace suffers from headaches and other symptoms that may indicate that she is belatedly turning into a werewolf after the childhood wolf bite. When her parents discover Sam and Grace sleeping together, they ground her and try to end the relationship. At the same time, Isabel, whose brother died from the meningitis cure that saved Sam, explores her attraction to Cole St. Clair, the newest member of the werewolf pack. In his old life, Cole was the lead singer of a rock band. He has abandoned his drug infused rock star life and sought out the transformation, hoping to lose himself as a wolf. Isabel and Cole share the narration of the story with Sam and Grace. Linger is a bridge book in the trilogy which will end with Forever.
