Staples, Suzanne Fisher.
THE GREEN DOG : A MOSTLY TRUE STORY
New York : Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, 2003.
IL 3-6, RL 5.4
ISBN 0374327793
Suzanne had a great imagination.  She imagined all sorts of things.  But the one thing she thought about most was a dog.  Not just any dog.  A dog with silky fur and big brown eyes and named Jeff.  She did all she could to convince her parents that she should have a dog but they always said no.  Her brother had bad allergies and just couldn't handle a dog.  When Suzanne saw the stray dog in the middle of the highway, she knew she'd found Jeff.  Somehow the dog found Suzanne too and her parents let her keep him.  But, oh the trouble he caused.  Spend the summer with Suzanne and Jeff and find out how he became The Green Dog.
