This
book isn't in the Bible, but it's an interesting attempt to get us to think
about what it must have been like to live as a 13 year old when the Romans
were ruling Palestine and the Jewish scribes were trying to find the flaw
in the wandering carpenter's explanation of the holy writings. First we
think like Daniel who has run away from his apprenticeship to a blacksmith
to join the rebels in the hill organizing to overthrow the foreign invaders.
Then we switch to Jiel and his twin sister living in the lap of luxury
but not any more into the Romans than Daniel. This story is how these two
unlikely characters become involved as friends and how their sisters too
cross over the usual barriers that separate the rich and the poor. |
