Ruby and her family are migrant workers.  That means they move around a lot to find work.  They pick crops so they need to move to where the crops are.  There isn't much money in this work and Ruby knows that the little they have won't stretch far enough to buy a real store-bought book.  So, she writes her own books on scraps of paper.  But she does long for a real book.  Will she ever be able to have one?
