Smith, K
SKEETER
Boston : Houghton Mifflin, 1989.
IL 5-8 RL 7.3
ISBN 0833583573
Story of two friends, different as night and day and how they barged into the life of an old, very old, gunsmith named Skeeter Hawkins. The dynamics of the trio are as follows: Joey is used to thinking he has all the answers and jabbers constantly. His friend Steve is quiet and thoughtful and is deliberate about the decisions he makes. Skeeter is somewhat of a hermit who thinks that Steve and Joey are the answers to his prayer. He's been praying for a boy to come to replace the son who was killed while he was in the army, 30 years ago. The friends come to appreciate each other's differences despite their different styles.
