Fifteen-year-old Alex Sawyer is living in a nightmare.  First he is convicted of a murder he didn't commit.  Now he is sentenced to life in the worst underground prison you can imagine.  It started years ago when teens went on a murder spree.  The government created the Furnace and started locking up juveniles and throwing away the key.  The prison is guarded by furless dogs with silver eyes and merciless guards in blacksuits wearing gas masks.  Alex dreams of escaping but everyone says that it is impossible.  But it is the only thing keeping Alex going.
