Jack, Ashley and Sam are very excited about getting to explore the caves at Carlsbad Cavern. Jack is not too excited about all the bats though. The children have been given a great opportunity to visit the caves since their parents are researching Carlsbad. Jack is especially happy that Sam can come along. Sam has only been with the family for a few weeks. His mother has been put into drug rehab and Sam was placed with Jack's family until something could be worked out. Jack feels very protective of Sam. During the tour of the underground caves, Sam gets spooked and runs off. Jack and Ashley go searching for him and very soon they realize they are hopelessly lost. To top it off, they have stumbled across a couple of thieves. How are they ever going to get out of the cave?
