The scientist and activist, Jane Goodall, comes to vivid life for readers in this fascinating biography by Anita Silvery (with a foreword by Goodall herself). Her childhood, long career and ongoing legacy are explored, and highlighted with large, clear photos in an attractive layout. One of the most memorable pictures depicts Jane and Wounda, a chimpanzee who was healed at the Jane Goodall Institute, just before Wounda’s release into a protected sanctuary, embracing (p. 58). “Field Notes” at the end of the book include general information about chimpanzees and a “scrapbook” featuring photos and descriptions of members of the Gombe Family of chimpanzees. Timeline, map, and additional resources are also included.(Garden State Children's Book Awards, 2018)
