Having destroyed Happy Jack Harvest Camp, just one of many harvest camps where teens are sent to be unwound, taken apart to provide body parts for others, teens Connor and Resa have adapted to life in a safe area. Are they truly safe, though? Meanwhile Lev is worshiped as the clapper who didn’t clap, although he is unaware of this at first. Cal is a new kind of being, having been created entirely from parts from unwinds, a futuristic Frankenstein’s monster, with no identity of his own, raising the question of what makes one human. Although people are starting to question the morality of unwinding, it has become a huge business, and such a convenient method of getting rid of troublesome teenagers, that there are very powerful politicians and business people who do not want to see it the practice end. Unsouled is the third volume in the series. (Book Talk Author: Julie Richards, Colorado Blue Spruce Award, 2015) |
