Who can tell me what the Statue of Liberty is?  She is one of the most recognized statues in the world.  But do you know the story behind why she was built?  And, do you know that she is a gift from France?  Well, way back in the year 1875, a Frenchman by the name of Edouard de Laboulaye got the idea that the French people should give a gift to the United States to celebrate the 100th birthday of the country.  After all, France had helped the United State achieve its independence so the two countries were joined in the creation of the country.  Although he would not live to see the completion of his dream, through his work and that of many others, the Statue of Liberty was born.  This is her story.
