 This book picks up where the author's The Book of Dead Days left off.  Boy is no longer serving Valerian.  But he is thrown into the dungeon of the mad emperor.  Frederick believes that the boy has the secret of the Book of Days and is determined to learn it.  Frederick believes it is the answer to his prayers to become immortal.  But the boy is determined to find the book before anyone else so he can find out who he is.  How can he possibly find the book when he is being held in the prison?
