Before Ezra was hit by a car and his leg shattered and he discovered that his girlfriend was cheating on him, he was one of the popular kids, a forerunner to be the homecoming king. Afterwards, he starts to distance himself from them, and starts spending time with one of his old friends, Toby and his friends, who are into things completely different than what his old friend group was. He also falls in love with the new girl, Cassidy, and starts dating her. As he spends time with these people, he discovers that he loves what they do and are like than his old friends, and finds himself.
