When
Septimus Heap, the 7th son of a 7th son is found alive and appointed Apprentice
to Marcia Overstreet the Extraordinary Wizard, Simon Heap, his oldest brother,
disappears in anger. Simon has always been determined to be the Apprentice
and eventually Extraordinary Wizard. Even if it means bringing the evil
DomDaniel back from the dead and betraying his family.
A year after he disappears, Simon returns, sweeps his foster sister Jenna, the princess, onto his horse and rides away with her as hostage. Septimus tries and fails to stop his brother. Neither Marcia, haunted by a shadow, nor Septimus’ parents can believe that Simon has actually kidnapped the princess. Only his brother Ricko takes Septimus seriously and accompanies him on his quest to save and return their sister. But they find that Simon is a much more accomplished Wizard at this point than Septimus, and one who is learning of Darke Magyk from DomDaniel’s ghost. Further, Simon has seemed to have rediscovered the lost magical art of Flyte which makes him even more dangerous. (Colorado Blue Spruce Young Adult Book Award Nominees 2007-2008) |
