Sachs, Marilyn
MARV
Garden City, N.Y. : Doubleday, 1975
IL 5-8
ISBN 038500009X
Set in the 40's, this realistic fiction depicts a family in New York City. The oldest sister is brilliant, younger sister average, but Marv is a builder. The family conversations set a scene of concerns for unions, Hitler, doing good for the world. Marv's thoughts bring out the unselfconsciousness of doing projects, trying to please, not being sure they're on the right track. Touching scene when Marv tries to recreate an idyllic setting that his older sister had admired, and it turns out to be a favorite haunt of the pre-school set.
