We often hear the story of the Pilgrims who settled in Plymouth. But let's not forget those that settled in Jamestown earlier than that.  But this group of colonists were not as prepared for the rigors of the new land as those that would come later.  These men were mostly gentlemen who had no intention of working.  They didn't know how to plant and harvest crops.  They also did not foster good relationships with the Powhatan tribe that lived in the area.  It was not the best of starts.  But the colony did survive.  This is the history of the Virginia colony in the 1600s.
