Tory Brennan is not happy about having to leave New England after her mother's death. But here she is living on an island in South Carolina with her marine biologist father she doesn't even know. She meets a group of kids who love science and are also stuck on this island. They investigate the island and fine some dog-tags from a missing person. As they are investigating the disappearance, they are exposed to a virus that leaves them with heightened senses. Just what is going on here?
Science geek, Tory Brennan, the fourteen-year-old niece of the world famous forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, loves adventure. When she has to go live with her father on Morris Island, South Carolina, she finds a life altering adventure. The adventure starts when Tory and some friends find the dog tag of a long dead soldier and the skeleton of a young woman on an island that no one is allowed to visit. While on this island, Tory forms a bond with a wolfdog puppy and involves herself in a life and death struggle when she rescues him from certain death at a research facility on the island. Fortunately, Tory and the pup are not alone. They have become part of a pack—a human wolf pack—who will back them up no matter what. -- Peg Bruch (Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Awards, 2011-2012)
