THREE CLAMS AND AN OYSTER
New York : Farrar, Straus, Giroux, 2002.

ISBN 0374375267
Hmmm. Three clams and an oyster.  What an interesting title!  Does anyone have any idea what this book is about?  Well, I certainly couldn't have guessed by the title that it is about a four-on-four flag football team.  The three clams have been best friends since first grade and teammates since fifth.  Cade, the oyster, was an alternate who played when needed.  Until that day just before 9th grade when the original oyster, Glen, was killed in a freak accident.  And now the boys are in 11th grade and facing yet another change in the team.  Cade has become very distant.  He is into drinking and drugs and doesn't care about the team.  So the clams face finding a new oyster or being kicked out of the league.  Should the boys try to help Cade or cut him loose.  What would you do?
