Trisha
was so excited to start school. At last she'd be able to read!
It didn't happen in kindergarten, but she was sure first grade would be
the magic year. It didn't happen in first grade, either. Try as she might
Trisha just couldn't make those squiggly lines and marks make sense.
Each day was such a struggle for her. As she watched her classmates soar
along in reading and math, Trisha began to feel so different from them.
It wasn't until fifth grade that Trisha discovered the truth about herself.
Thanks to her teacher, Mr. Falker, she learns that she had a reading problem
that he can help her overcome. If you have ever struggled to do something
that your friends have done easily, then you will understand Trisha's embarrassment,
frustration, and confusion, and share in her joy as she finally learns
to read. (Jeannie Bellavance bellavance@erols.com.
