You probably wouldn’t think of your house burning down as a blessing, but Gabe does. He sees it as a way to start over, to reinvent himself in a new town and a new school. Right away, he meets Seth, a boy who lives just through the woods. Those dark woods are the perfect setting for fighting beasts and monsters, and they spend hours at it. When Gabe begins to tire of Seth’s made up world and wants no part of Seth’s childishness, weird things start happening. A dark figure in the woods. Wet footprints in the hall. A wooden puppet moved on its own. Something’s out to get Gabe, and it’s about to make a believer out of him…if he survives.  (Prepared by: Michelle King, Kennedy Middle School, South Carolina Junior Book Award)
