Since his mother's suicide, Travis "Stick" Reichard has gone from foster home to foster home.  And they haven't all been a very good experience.  Now, the only place he feels at home is on the basketball court.  He begins to hang at Lincoln Park in LA and gets to know the guys there -- many of them who feel the way he does.  But most of the guys at the court are black and Stick is white.  Only his basketball skills give him any street cred with the locals.  Stick dreams of getting a basketball scholarship and finding a way out of his terrible life.  But Stick has other problems that may short circuit any dreams of the future.
