High
school senior, Kaitlin Malone, has had a difficult year. Her father is
in prison for involuntary manslaughter, the family is in danger of losing
their farm, and now she must begin her senior year at a new school. And
not just any school, this school is on Crutchfield land.
The Crutchfields and the Malones
have been enemies for generations. Their hatred for each other runs deep
and when Kaitlin’s father is involved with the death of a Crutchfield,
their mutual loathing intensifies. Kaitlin is miserable at her new school
until she meets Bram. To escape the lunchroom, Kaitlin spends time in the
courtyard writing in her journal. One day an attractive young man carrying
a sketchbook interrupts her solitude. They finally meet when Bram shows
Kaitlin the sketch he has made of her. Kaitlin finds herself falling in
love with Bram and his feelings for her seem equally as strong. Trouble
begins again when Kaitlin discovers that Bram is a Crutchfield.
Kaitlin knows she is supposed
to hate the Crutchfields but she can’t make herself stop seeing Bram. She
longs to tell him who she is, but she fears his reaction. When her father
comes home from prison and finds out what is happening, Kaitlin knows it
is time to tell Bram whom she really is.
