Paulsen’s first tale of Brian
is in Hatchet. It’s a story of a young boy’s survival in the woods after
his plane crashes. In Brian’s Winter Paulsen explores what would happen
to Brian had he not been rescued before winter.
Brian had never even taken notice of the signs that nature gave him about
the impending fall and winter. By the time he had noticed it was already
getting cold in the evenings. Brian had no clothing other than a rag for
a tee shirt, pants that were worn and tennis shoes that were falling apart.
After surviving for about 90 days on small game, fish and fowl, Brian must
think about food during the winter when animals usually hibernate. And
if he can find food, how will he hunt it in the snow with no clothing?
When winter came it was so cold that when he used the bathroom his urine
froze on the way down and broke of the cold ground. Would he be able to
find shelter? Would he be able to stay warm with the clothing he had? Would

Brian
was stranded in the middle of no where. All he has with him is a survival
pack from the plain and the cloths and shoes on his back. He must hunt
for his food, and build his own shelter to survive. Will anyone find Brian
or will he have to find his own way out, Will Brian make it out of the

Brian’s winter is the best
of the whole Brian book series, which include Hatchet, Brian’s Hunt, and
Brian’s winter. This book is just fantastic because of its great vivid
words that make such a nice crisp image in your mind.
Brian’s winter is about teenager
who had a crash landing in the middle of the deep forest in Canada. He
had very limited amount of food so he was in danger of starving to death.
He had to fight for survival through out the changes of seasons especially
during very hard, cold winter. To keep himself alive he had to become a
predator even though he hated watch death. Unfortunately Brian’s rifle
broke and he had to make new hunting tools to help him catch white rabbits,
birds and even bigger visions creature to have enough food and no cloths.
Once Brian was about to get hurt really bad, then fortunately a stinky
friend came by and helped him out.
I recommend this book to people
who are interested in survival/adventure books because this book really
tells you what survival is all about. However, I would suggest reading
the Hatchet first, where the whole story about Brian begins. This would
help you to understand why he is in Canada. If you decide to read Brian’s
