When
twins are born, the younger might need more medical attention and the older
gets left out. Louise felt that happen to her. While sister Caroline is
taking piano lessons, Louise and McCall Purnell are earning money by catching
crabs in the Chespeake Bay. Louis really gets confused when the old man,
who has returned to the island after an absence of 50 years, seems to prefer
Call and her sister to her, despite her trying so hard to be friendly with
him. Her grandmother, a bit senile, rubs it in by quoting passages from
the Bible that seem to condemn Louise and her ways. If you want to share
Louise's struggle to find her place in her family, on her island and eventually
in her own home, be sure to read "Jacob Have I Loved". |
