My name is Amelia Bedelia. Yes, I’m aware that my name rhymes. Recently, I have been hired as a maid for the Rogers family. I am so excited to start. My first day, the Rogers family left me a list of chores to do while they are away. I’m beginning to wonder if I should have ever accepted this job. They are strange people. They asked me to dust the living room. So, I sprinkled dust in the living room. I thought it looked nicer before, but hey, that was on the list of chores. They also wanted me to put out the lights. I don’t know why you would want your light bulbs outside, but that’s what the list of chores said, so I hung them on the clothesline outside. Another strange request; draw the drapes when the sun comes in. Once the sun came through the windows, I drew the drapes on a piece of paper. I don’t know what good that will do? I did make them a pie while I finished my chores. When the Rogers family arrived home, they were not happy at all. I did everything the list said, but they weren’t satisfied. Like I said, they are a strange family. They did enjoy my pie, though! I wonder what they’ll ask me to do next time?  (Emily Hamstra, hamsemi@bvu.edu, college student)
