Fantastic Flights, by Patrick O’Brien, traces aviation history from Lilienthal’s first gliders in the 1890’s, through the Wright brothers’ first historic flight at Kitty Hawk, and on to the landing on Mars in 1997.  His easy to read and understand descriptions of the flights are only made clearer by his fabulous full-page illustrations.  He includes enough facts and figures in the sidebars for those statistically inclined reader, while describing each flight in very readable narrative.  The blue-print like drawings on the endpapers make the reader eager to get started. This is a great book for both history and aviation enthusiasts.  (Becky Bridges, South Carolina Book Awards, 2006)
