IN SUMMER LIGHT
New York : Viking, 1985.
IL YA RL 8.0
ISBN 0553259407
Kate has mono and can't go to Long Island with her girlfriend to spend the summer. She's stuck at home with her famous artist father who only talks to her when she brings coffee to his studio at 10 am every morning. She has lots of time to think about her mom's total attention to her dad -- why didn't she develop her own artistic talents? And then there's her pesky little sister interfering with the attention she's been getting from the student who's been hanging around doing research on her dad. As the summer progresses, she seems to be able to rediscover her youth, the fun she had painting clay on the rocks and still gain confidence in her own ability to be of interest as a person separate from her father.
