Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were two teenagers who lived in Cleveland during the Depression. Both boys had a secret talent. Jerry was good at writing and Joe was good at drawing. One night Jerry came up with an idea for heroes that had super powers. He wrote the stories all night long and took them to Joe in the morning to illustrate. They decided to put an “S” on the superhero’s uniform for “Super” and Siegel and Shuster. It took three years until a publisher would use their ideas in a comic book. Was it a bird or a plane? No, it was Superman! (Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Award nominee, 2011) |
