When the Nazi’s invade Poland during World War II, Chaya’s life is shattered. Her family is forced to live in a ghetto because they are Jews, her sister is sent to a concentration camp, and her brother disappears. Chaya, who has fair looks and is fluent in Polish and some German, joins the Jewish resistance movement as a courier and is able to smuggle food, messages, and forged papers into the Jewish ghettos and to also get messages and people out. Follow Chaya’s story as she willingly risks her life to save her people in any way that she can. (Pennsylvania Young Reader’s Choice Award 2019-2020)
