Naylor, Phyllis Reynolds
THE AGONY OF ALICE
New York : Atheneum, 1985.
IL 5-8 RL 5.7
ISBN 0689311435
Alice McKinley's project for her new school is to find an adoptive mother among the teachers. Her own mother died and her father is now a single parent. When Alice is assigned the pear-shaped one who doesn't wear lipstick, doesn't drive a sports car and doesn't take the kids on the camping trip, she's not sure she'll find any map for living following Mrs. Plodkin's example. This is a good story -- with a lot of humor -- if you've ever felt a bit klutzy and self-conscious, this story should mean a lot to you!
