On a beautiful sunny day, Mama Duck decided to leave her peaceful pond in the park and take her five ducklings, Pipin, Bippin, Tippin, Dippin, and Little Joe for a walk into town. With a “Whack-a-Whack,” Mama Duck waddled along over a storm drain. As the five ducklings followed after her, something unexpected happened. One by one they all fell into the storm drain because they were too tiny. Fortunately, a woman witnessed the ducks’ dilemma, and called the fire department. While the ducklings were quack, quack, quacking, for their mother, the firemen tried to lift the stuck grate. Will they succeed in reuniting Mama Duck with her ducklings? This is based on a true story about a mama duck and her ducklings which occurred in 2000 in Montauk, New York. (Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Award, 2015) |
