Zoey is looking forward to the school field trip.  But she definitely does not want her mother or grandmother to chaperone.  It's going to be an overnight trip and it should be fun.  They are learning about the New Madrid Earthquake that happened in 1811.  Zoey hasn't finished reading the chapter in her text book since she has plenty of time to do it.  But the bus is caught in a horrible storm and Zoey is washed away from her classmates.  What she doesn't realize is that she has really been washed away to the year 1811.  Just when the earthquakes happen.  Joining with a girl her own age and the girl's pregnant mother, it is up to Zoey to convince them that they need to leave their home.  The earthquake will destroy the home and the whole area will be under water.  Although neither girl can understand what is going on, they work together to try to get to safety.
