Myoho
is in Me by Jackie Millhouse is a wonderful story about the SGI Buddhist
practice of chanting. It explains that Myoho is the Buddhist spirit that
is inside of a person and that it is brought out through chanting. It is
a book for kindergarten children. "Myoho is the Mystic Law of the universe,
is part of our daily lives, and we take it with us wherever we go."
I chose the book because I'm a member of SGI and think that this durable
book is an excellent introduction to Nichirin Buddhism. This Buddhism has
existed since the 1200s and had its origins in Japan.
This child's book explains
in detail about the Gohonzon, incense, prayer beads and the practice of
chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. "My brain finds the wisdom, My hands hold
the beads, My ears hear the bell, My eyes see the Gohonzon, My nose smells
the incense, My mouth chants the words, And I know that Myoho is in me."
This is such a practical book about our relationship to the Mystic Law!
