This
story is told in a fictionalized diary format. Clotee is a 12 year old
slave girl living on a plantation during 1859. She has secretly learned
to read and write. She must keep this a secret because slaves are forbidden
to read and write. Clotee learns about the Underground Railroad which is
not really a railroad but a group of people who help slaves escape from
the South. Clotee is able to help others find their freedom. She must decide
if she wants to leave her home and run to freedom herself. |
