Life
in Conners, Georgia in 1974 is a mix of small town life and real world
issues. The country is struggling to come to terms with the Vietnam
War. But Darcy is starting high school and is struggling with all
the fears and excitement that goes along with this milestone. Darcy
and her sister Adel love going to the dances at the local Army base.
But this is all about to change. When her mother undergoes a battery
of medical tests, the results are not good. She has breast cancer.
As her mother battles this terrible disease, Darcy throws herself into
working in mother's garden -- the biggest and best in town. She hopes
that by saving the garden, she is also saving her mother.
